When walking around Charleston, South Carolina we came across something that is called a hospitality door. It is a bit deceiving because it looks like a normal front door, but if it is opened, it leads to the front porch or courtyard area instead of into the house. Years ago, people would open their hospitality door, while still being able to keep their front door closed, as a way of signaling when you are available for guests to drop by. And yes, if you are wondering, I was that person creeping around Charleston taking pictures of people’s doors to provide a visual of what I am referring to!
To me, this was a great analogy to the concept of the last ten percent. Some say it is the last five percent or one percent, but regardless the concept is that there is that last percentage of your life that you withhold and do not want to reveal to others.
